My understanding was the problem was with Non-counter balanced 4 cyl engines

You guys are beginning to make me believe I shouldn't be flying with my MT electric prop on my IO 360 counter balanced lycoming in a 173E RG. I put a little over 100 hours on it last year flying all over the western mountains out of Nevada and had no problems and thought eveything was OK. After reading all these posts I am having second thoughts about flying to Texas or anywhere else. Has anyone had any good experience with the MT on a 4 banger?
Hoping to hear some comforting words.
  Jim

After seeing the picture I do believe you have very little or no grease left in that set of bearings. I would also look for some looseness in your blade. The spacer may be the wrong thickness. If there is any movement at all it will allow the seal to unseat causing the grease to centrifugally get pass the seal. Once again, I am not trying to say the MT prop is a good prop, must I say anymore?
Catto just hasn't got my higher pitch prop built yet. He was able to rebuild my old blades faster and I put it back on. Believe me they are much stronger then the original and smoother.
      Sorry if I offended you.

No Offence at all. You are correct in your evaluation of the photo. The blades did develop quite a bit of looseness in the hub in short time in service. Also the blackness of the grease is the grinding of the black plastic spacers within the bearing assembly. This turns the grease black. And it was out of grease. The bearings (races, not balls) were totally trashed. The propeller was always overhauled/repaired by an "mt" repair center, so as far as the wrong spacer/end play being used, they know better than I. Again, I feel that these problems are due to the four cylinder issue, and mt is not quite sure as what to do. This is evident as each part that has failed in the five years I have had the prop, was replaced with a part of different design. I'm sure mt considers me a "problem customer" rather than a "problem prop".

Here is another one. What's wrong with this picture? This is the pitch change motor with a little retention problem. Nice to have away from home.
