Isn't 66 sqin nearly the size of the engine cooling inlet?  Sounds like 

a lot.  I would have thought maybe 30% of that would do.  

 

Keep in mind that back at the cowl the turbulent boundary layer is
approaching 2" thick, so if the scoop is not separated from the fuselage (BL
diverter) the average airspeed in the boundary layer may be something like
half to 2/3 the freestream velocity.
