Dear Scott,

Thanks for thinking of us. Katrina has done to Louisiana what was done
to the Velocity Hangers by your hurricaine. We have had over 5000
refugees from New Orleans settle in tent areas in Monroe. These people
were like any of use a week ago and are now homeless, with no money and
no food and gas at $4.00 / gal and rising fast. Personally we are fine.
I am an ENT Surgeon and se are trying to manage the influx of injured
and sick. This weekend I am on call for five hospitals that normally
total 350 to 400 beds All but one hospital in N.O. are closed and we
are expecting 300 to 800 sick to our town TONIGHT with only four hundred
beds in the city limits. One local hospital that normally operates on
15 patients per day had 28 surgeries today. Personally I've been out
past midnight three nights this week and I am on call for the next 60
hrs straight. People are lost and disconnected and becoming violent in
some cases. This event will be the biggest national disaster America
has seen short of War. It is much worse than the media has portrayed
it. New Orleans natives will not be returning to there homes possible
for years. Most will be permanently displaced. It will takes months
just to get N. O. to the point they can begin to determine what to do.
Then there are not building materials nor builders to build. We have
over two thousand middle case people living in cots at the local
gymnasium. I here estimates that our little town will need to feed over
6000 by next week. 90 % of the gas stations are out of fuel.
Mississippi is 80% without power to refrigerate food and no electricity
to pump fuel. Computer networks are down indefinitely, ATM machines are
down so the homeless can not even get to there finances. Pray for these
families.

We will struggle on. The death toll will be thousands. The 90%
destroyed families will number in the millions in La. and Mississippi.

Thanks again

Rene'
