Subject: RE: REFLECTOR: cooling requirements

Al, when I was studying cooling to design a Naca fed system for my 0320 Long
EZ in 1980, I got a cooling engineering study from Lycoming and all of their
calculation for cooling air requirements was in pounds of air. The cooling
potential of a cu ft of air varies considerably with density (temp and alt).
Just a thought.

Herb Sanders

You're right, Herb. It varies inversely with temp and directly with
pressure; so I guess we could just say directly proportional to DA. The
cooling ability of the air decreases with altitude in direct proportion to
the decrease in the engines output power - unless you have a turbo, of
course.

In my calcs I used air at sea level 90F.
