I am flying off of 3000' at 840' MSL.
You'll want to work on your short field landings at your test airport. Mark a spot 2700 feet from the approach end and work on getting down.
One hint/word of caution. Don't get TOO SLOW. I have been working on shortening my landings - I had three in a row that came down too hard - the last one was about two pitch bucks on final - my nose wheel hit so hard that it pinched the tire and caused a blister. You'll want to keep at least 5 or even 10 knots above canard stall, fly down to the numbers and close to the runway then pull the power. I had forgotten what Nathan had taught me about 150 landings ago!!!
The Velocity does have some pretty rugged gear!!! No other damage that I can see other than the nose tire.

Subject: REFLECTOR: Runway length
I put my name on the waiting list for a hangar at a nearby airport (Oceanside) 8 years ago. They notified me Fri that one is available, and that I have to commit within 4 days. (Thanks a lot for advance notice!)
The runway length there is listed as 2712' x 75'. Clearly short for initial flight tests. I'll have to do that at Ramona - 5000' x 150'; but Ramona is an hour from home.
I'm just looking for some feedback on basing a Velocity SE RG at a 2700' runway (at sea level and temps rarely over 80, typically in the 60's and 70's). With 265 hp, takeoff should never be an issue.
Thanks,
Al
