REFLECTOR: Dimming the lights

With my essentially glass cockpit, and screens with their own brightness
control; I have only to dim about 300 ma worth of stuff. I put in a simple
rheostat to do that. The GMA 340 (audio Panel) has 2 connections to the "hi
side lighting bus" and a connection to the "low side lighting bus".  Please;
this is not an airliner. And all it has is some LED's in the buttons to
highlight your selection.

I thought I could connect the "hi-side" to +14v and the "low-side" to low
side from the rheostat. But, wait a minute - how does that work? Does it
have to switch from one to the other?

Maybe someone here knows about this hi-side, low-side bus thing, and can
clarify this for me.

Thanks,

Al (up to my elbows in wires)
