Kent,

I left out one thing that I didn't think was applicable since my aircraft is so different. I have a Fixed Gear, but: since I have an aluminum V-6 and have a heater/boost cooling plenum in the nose, I was short on space too. My HID light would not fit without hitting the plenum.
What I did might help you. I slid the landing light in from the front. This moved the light forward by about a half of an inch (almost where the regular light bulb was). I then made a retaining ring that holds it in, and painted it white like the rest of the landing light pocket. Works great! That retainer ring only took an hour or so to make... and a little sanding and painting time. I can send you a picture if you like, and can measure how far aft of the factory landing light housing the light extends.

Since I complicated my project by using this V-6, I have not yet flown. I have, however, openned the hangar doors and blasted that light out at night. It is truly unbelievable.

Hope that helps.

Subject: RG?

Hi Kurt -

Glad your HID light worked well. I'm ready to order one (probably from XeVision).

Unfortunately I have an XL-RG (too many things ready to go wrong), so it sounds like I'll have to modify the landing light housing so my nose wheel doesn't hit the balast. Or I may have room to mount the light on the nose strut.

John Dortch and Chris Martin have RGs, according to their posts, but I don't know yet which RGs - Elite, SE, XL... Perhaps some nose compartments are bigger than others.

Am I correct, since it took you only about an hour to install yours, that your Velocity is not an RG?

Have you been able to fly at night yet? I'll bet it's impressive.
