It may actually go faster...Less diameter, more pitch at the same RPM....

Subject: REFLECTOR: IMPORTANT MT PROP INFO & QUESTION
Date: Tue, 15 Mar 2005 13:01:27 -0700

I have finally gotten a lot of information (all o fit off the record
from people inside MT Prop Shops).

Here is the truth ... no matter what you hear. I have verified it
through several sources.

When it comes to experimental planes ... almost NO ONE sends their props
off to Germany unless it is catastrophic damage (shattered blades).
Otherwise ... they simply find someone to trim it down. There are some
MT props flying out there with two inches trimmed off!

There are also shops (who don't publicize it) that fix the blades.

The grease problem has been cured by stainless steel inserts in the hub.
Mine already has them (this info no thanks to MT factory).

But even with the updated or modified hubs ... you also need new "O"
rings to completely stop the grease slinging.

The blades do not have to be refurbished to make them a matched set ...
any similar blades can be used so long as they are "statically" balanced
upon assembly ... then followed up with dynamic balancing.

The wheels are in motion to have my repair done ... and I have two basic
choices ...so I'd like input.

I have four blades at 64.5". I can either repair the one chipped blade
(keeping them all the original length) ... or I can have them all
trimmed about an inch (leaving me better ground clearance).

Do you think an inch short will make much difference in my cruise? I'd
hate to lose a lot of what that big engine on the small fuselage is
giving me.

Tom
