REFLECTOR: Re: Check valves in fuel vents

My sump is vented to the engine compartment.  I'm not sure if I would have chosen to
put it there.  However, given that loose bolts defy gravity and exit out the rear of
the cowl and into the prop, I imagine that hurricane force ventilation exists in the
engine compartment and I doubt that fuel vapors can concentrate to the flammable
limit.  Can anyone tell me what the red cylinder is?  It it a check valve?
