REFLECTOR: Speed Brake

I agree, for a one time event a fender isn't worth it.

Start up on the cleanest area you can find.  Ease in the power as slowly as 
possible to get moving, and ease off a little once you are.  Don't stop 
once you're moving, if you must do a run up do it while you taxi.  Roll out 
onto the runway without stopping and go - again, ease in the power.

On a maintenance run-up I once saw vortexes form off the prop disk, sucking 
up little puddles of water.  And that was with my nose gear retracted - 
nose on the ground, prop raised.
