Hey Tom:

There are two types of drag induced and parasitic...

Induced drag is the by-product of lift, anytime you make lift you make drag.  This is usually asscoiated with airflow on the wing moving span wise on the bottom of the wing to catch up with air moving over the top,  that is a wing tip vorties.

parasitic drag comes from outside airflow restriction over the intire airframe.  An open landing gear well would curtianly produce a reduction in airspeed, effieciency, and overall performance.  For example a V-35 Bonnanza eliminated an entire tail surfase.

How much performace gain do you see when you put the gear up and the airplane becomes clean?  Gear doors will even improve your performance.  I know it's been long and they are one of the last bits of details, but worth it.
