REFLECTOR: Franklin Enging Mount

While having N21HV inspected and cleaned up, an A&P pointed out a potential problem with the factory supplied Franklin engine mount. He has pointed out that the alternator mounting arm comes in contact with one of the support structure for the engine mount. He is concerned about the engine vibration damaging the mount over time. I remember discussing this with someone who suggested grinding the arm to clear the mount. Has anyone who has done the Franklin installation seen this issue?

Aside from grinding the arm, another thing I can think of is to shim the engine ¼" or so to give a little clearance. Would that affect the flying characteristics of the plane since the thrust line will be very slightly higher? I am doubting this since the engine mount location on the firewall was not an exact science to start out with.

Any voice of experiences out there?

Hiroo
