REFLECTOR: A question about engines

Contrary to conventional wisdom (esp. in the aircraft sector) I like and am
installing the Mazda Rotary turbo. Yep, I will be faced with some issues,
but I feel they are very workable. (Heck, I would be faced with issues on a
lyc install as well) Also, luckily, other pioneers are taking the
arrows....too. <g>

Since you really don't want opinions I will direct you to my web page (in
serious need for an update) that has some links to rotary information that I
hope you will investigate. If you decide another route, you will have made
an informed decision. The older twin rotary 13b without any additional work
produces about 160hp. "Ported" close to 200 hp. Turboed 250ish plus. The
three rotary 20b is in the 260 range and over 300 turboed (if memory
serves). The new Reneses is rated at about 230 hp N/A. My page is
www.lonestarvelocity.com (look under the engine link on the left hand
column.

Also, to ease the search to specific info I suggest Paul Lamars website on
Aircraft Engines Rotary Engines (ACRE). Paul is full on engineering rhetoric
and can be somewhat abrasive, but he has some very good reads (many of the
basics are easy reads too). His link is
http://home.earthlink.net/~rotaryeng/ACRE.html. I suggest the first two
articles on the list to give you some quick insight. Paul also host an
active list serve on rotary aircraft.

Also, go to Tracy Crooks site at http://www.rotaryaviation.com . Tracy has
1450 hours on his RV and sells redrives and Engine control units.

Finally, if you continue an interest, the "Flyrotary" email list is very
active and has flyers and builders "a-plenty"

I will end by asking you to keep you options open and do what is right for
you. If you stayed with conventional wisdom, you would never build an
airplane. But the world needs spam can flyers too. FWIW.

All the best,

Chris
