Thanks to Chris for the Frapper...and for stimulating a little conversation on get togethers. I am for that.

As a once very frequent visitor to San Antonio, I can vouch for that description and let me offer this as an alternative. I live in the city of Chicago, just a 5 minute walk to the Lake Michigan beaches and just as clost to the neighborhood "el" stop. In the summer months we are a destination to match any for stuff to do. Bad news might be hotel room rates...but that can be compared w/ info from the WWW.

Likely I will be hangared at Gary, IN by then. The Gary Airport is accessible by train to downtown Chicago or about 30 mins by car and likely the FBO would be happy to host in some capacity. Airfares into Midway and O'Hare are likely among the least expensive in the nation on several discount carriers. One idea would be a post-Oshkosh or pre-Oshkosh get together. I could help put this together...but San Antonio sounds great too.

It's just that the heart of mid-America is a bit north!! Try cityofchicago.org (and try to ignore the pic of Mayor Daley!!)

  Regards,
  Terry Miles

Greg, I was thinking a year from now, perhaps mid November, 2006. That would be a perfect time of year if it were San Antonio-after hurricanes Omicron, Pi, Rho and Sigma have past.

Gee Robin - you sure you don't work for the Texas Tourism Authority? Having read your spiel, I'm almost ready to emigrate! (.sounds very much like down here.).

Just had a look at a Google map and the main web sites on San Antonio. certainly wont be a small town camp out

Just how far in advance are you blokes looking to hold this event?

    Greg in Sydney.

Thank you Scott! I didn't think anybody was ever going to wake up to the potential of the Texas Fly-In :-) We've got Texas size airport facilities, San Antonio is known for their expertise in convention hospitality, we've got Sea World, Fiesta Texas, The River Walk, the Mission Trail for history and photography buffs (the missions are one of the most coveted locations for professional photographers worldwide), the list of attractions is very long. -- And of course there's the food! Few cities in the country can begin to match our food chain. And if you get homesick for the coast it's less than a two hour drive to Corpus Christi and Padre Island.

Also... Our flying weather is perhaps the best in the United States. -- Low rainfall, warm temperatures, gentle winds; there's a reason the Air Force had so many bases here. And we are virtually unaffected by tropical storms (I'm reluctant to use the "hurricane" word after this last season, but we didn't get a drop, or even any harsh winds.) With all the great facilities San Antonio has to offer, I've often wondered why Velocity hasn't picked up and moved their factory here by now. ................... Think it over :-)

      Additional thoughts ...

No need to make this a "come by airliner" affair entirely. Why not coincide the Velocity program with an EAA regional fly-in (SWRegional in San Antonio, TX is one idea) or AOPA Expo 2006 Palm Springs type of event?

Velocity, Inc. will gladly pitch-in with some financial support.

        Sounds like fun.

Pick a location that non-aviation loving spouses will enjoy.

Yes, 'tis fun. This leads to a sense of community.and a VERY crazy idea.now that we see where most everybody lives.

It's been done before for various events, but.

Anyone interested in an official Reflector "Drive-in" for builders, perhaps in a year? We could all meet centrally in the U.S (fly in commercially) for a weekend of fun and sharing, Friday noon through Sunday at 3:00. Perhaps some could bring photos and make formal presentations, with discussions of mods, things learned, etc. Something like a scientific convention, a sharing of latest findings. Scott Baker, you'd be invited to join us as the factory tech rep.

No, I'm not the guy to put it together. Someone else would be better talented. Can't be that hard.Ramada in KS, meeting room, a few meals, AV equipment. What say you all? Any interest?

          Dear Collective,

I just created a "Frapper" map for Velocity owners and builders. If'n you don't know what Frapper is yet, it is a map that will allow users to add themselves and give a visual representation of that persons general world location. You may also place a picture and brief description of yourself and/or project. I am already on two other Frapper maps and have suffered no known ill consequences. (yeah, you do need to register so I imagine you are once again being tracked for marketing purposes by someone....so it goes).

I find the other two very interesting to monitor. I am currently on the Frapper Rotary engine list and the CanardAviator list.

To add yourself please to go to http://www.frappr.com/velocity. It is free and very easy. I hope to see y'all there.

          All the best,
