REFLECTOR: Nav-Lt Wiring

Of course, if they are FAA approved, they meet the brightness requirements.
I thought about designing some red and green LED position lights about 5
years ago that would retrofit into a standard Whelen housing, but at that
time it wasn't possible to get enough LEDs in a standard Whelen housing to
get out enough brightness. I looked on Whelen's website today, and they
only make forward red and green position lights; their LED position lights
don't shine out the sides.

It occurs to me while I am writing this that for my airplane there is no
reason to use a standard Whelen housing, and in that case it is going to be
no problem meeting the FAA spec for red and green and white position lights
with LEDs. Much longer life, vibration immune, 1/5th the power, smaller
(lighter) wire out to the wings, you gotta love it.
