Ah, yes; but it's a stress riser.  In some cases you may want 'bite', but
most cases surface protection for the turning nut, and compression. I
suspect one answer doesn't fit all; and mostly it doesn't matter.

Speaking of hardware, how many people pay attention to placing the correct
side of an AN washer down?  There is one.

Not me.  I'm just going to guess that one side has a sharper edge. Should it
