I too love my Control Vision Anywhere Map. I have been using it for a couple
of years and it is great. The ONLY drawback as far as I am concerned is
that you do need to maintain some "wire management". I am still amazed at
the marvel of GPS. FWIW.

All the best,

Chris

Has anyone found himself with an extra Garmin 296 GPS he or she might

My Velocity flew in 1995, and at that time I got a Garmin 95XL. First
moving map. I used it until last July when they no longer supported updates
for it. Those bas*%#ds. Anyway, in response, I in turn purchased the
Control Vision "Anywhere map" and am using it on a iPAC 5550. This is the
greatest thing since Viagra. It runs my Nav-Aid auto pilot, updates
on-line, holds all my addresses, along with excel, word and other usfull
programs. I also purchased the "Pocket Plate" IFR approach plate software
from Control Vision for it. Never again update the binders, do it on line.
I also purchased from HP a street map program with bluetooth wireless gps
for the rental car when I get there. Control Vision's marketing is "why pay
more for a portable unit that you can only use in the plane." This is so
true. I find the iPAC so handy in day to day business. There are many
after-market programs you can run on the thing. I even have a program on it
that tells me how much "hold over" is needed to bust a prairie dog at
423yards. They even have a program utilizing the blue tooth gps and a topo
map of golf courses to let you know how far from the green you are, and
recommend what club to use. I personaly have never golfed as I can't see
the chalange in it. I cannot see myself ever going back to a dedicated
portable GPS. Control Vision has a live weather overlay for the Anywhere
Map that utilized information transmitted from the XM radio satellites via
an onboard receiver. How cool is that? There are other moving map programs
also out there for PDA's, but the only experience I have is with Control
Vision. I would think long and hard and investigate these systems before
laying down hard cash for a unit that stays in the plane.
