REFLECTOR: STRONG PITCH SYSTEM

I've never had any such problem. And I inspect it regularly... I probably inspected it every 1-2 hours for the first 20 hours I flew it. It could be that in your jig you are not limiting the fore/aft stick travel to what you'll actually see when it's limited by elevator travel. In any case, I never seen any upward force on the override assembly that could ever dislodge the slider.

My advice - continue to work with Alex & continue to ask questions... I'll help if I can, and I'm confident that Alex will work at it until he's comfortable with his solution.

I heard from Alex. He said Dave's unit was different.

  Here is Alex's response:

"The major difference between your unit and Dave's` is his unit does not have a slot on the bottom instead there are just 2 holes to allow assembly of the shuttle.

I am rigging up a full size mock up of the keel to test your configuration and be able to measure forces acting on the unit as well as its geometry. The rod end at the motor mount was to allow for the arc the stick makes when pushing or pulling. Perhaps I did not allow for the angular movement of the rod end by putting spacers on each side of the rod end ball."

I believe not having the slot on the bottom, made the assembly stronger, which helped resist the tendency of the slot to "bow" (which is what happened to mine, causing the shuttle to pop out).

I'm wondering why Dave Nelson doesn't seem to have this issue. Dave - did you do something different? Did you experience this?

I received the Velocity Strong Pitch System from Alex (nice man). As I reported previously ... it looked great. However, in practice, after installing it, I found what I consider a major flaw.

If you look at the photo I attached you will see it.

The system installs like a dream ... but in actual operating it is impossible to push and pull the stick (against the spring) without causing an "upward" pressure on the override assembly. Even with a pivoting actuator ... the pressure is still there. The result? After much testing and use, the stick-attach mechanism will "pop" out of the channel and come out of the override assembly as mine did.

I have had other verify my theory. There is no way to install it without having the "upward" pressure. The only way it could be relieved is to somehow have a variable length stick that would retract and extend as needed, while the override mechanism slides fore and aft.

I love the idea ... but not in it's present form.

    Tom
