Subject: REFLECTOR:Rotary Engine

Has anyone ever put a rotary in a Velocity? Or has anyone researched
putting a rotary in a Velocity? Any pros or cons?

Thanks,
Joe
Why, yes they have. I am nearing completion on the installation of a
3-rotor on a SE-RG. I had researched just about every possible option; =
and
concluded it to be the best approach. It has been quite a challenge =
with
lots of custom engineering. The engine has tested out on the dyno, and =
will
deliver about 270 hp at max useable rpm. The total firewall back =
weight,
including coolant (no prop) is 420 lbs. The engine is normally =
aspirated,
and basically "stock" in terms of performance. Most of the changes are =
in
the ancillary parts for packaging and weight reduction. The C.G. is =
closer
to the firewall than a Lyc or Franklin, and I estimate the moment of the
engine package will be about the same as a Lyc 360.
=20
I utilizes electronic ignition and fuel injection that are both =
completely
redundant - 2-plugs per rotor; primary and secondary injections, set up =
to
be able to run on either set. Should be smooth, reliable power. You =
can
check it out at <http://members.cox.net/alg3/airplane.htm>
http://members.cox.net/alg3/airplane.htm.

Any custom engine installation involves a lot of "firsts". After I have
flown 100 hours I will be able to tell you how successful it is.
