REFLECTOR: paint

Looking at a chart of the solar absorbtivity of different colors of paint
shows that there is a big increase as soon as you depart from white. But of
all the colors, bright yellow absorbs the about the least; right there with
an off-white.

Speaking of the orange plane Wayne- I always wondered if that colored paint

caused any temp problems, as I recall before it was orange, it was pink

panther pink, the pink was kind of light, but the orange was almost a

University of Texas color- what do you think did it ever get warm on there

with the color- I am planning a corvette yellow (and white and blue) paint

scheme, and don't want any problems, although the painted metal samples that

I keep out in the Texas sun really don't get very hot at all...

This sounds like a good topic for me to address in the next Velocity

Views.

For those of you who do not subscribe to the 'Views, I will try to

forward my

next segment to the reflector...

If you have any horror stories (short winded - please) mention them and

we can try to put a bunch of problems and maybe a few myths to bed.

P.S. N81VA (aka "Big Orange") is flying once again. I bought it from

Velocity

in november 2002 and have completed an extensive rebuild. YEEHAA!
