Al,

I would be concerned that it would not bond well enough to the wire

insulation. Hot glue is basically a LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) and

LDPE does not bond with Teflon which is the base material for AC wire

insulation.

Yes, I'm sure that's the case. I used it in a few places between screwed
attachment where it was very difficult to try and install a screw. I made
sure to bridge the glue over the wire. It holds very well now; I just don't
know whether it will still hold 15 years from now. I haven't decided yet
whether I was going back to do something different.

Im not too fond of Hot Glue for long term applications, but it is perfect
for short term. I have hot glued wires and other things where I want them.
Later.... when I was sure that is where I want it, I trimmed the hot glue to
a minumum, and applied silicone adhesive to the area. Now, it is soft,
pliable, and stuck until you change your mind.

I guess we know silicon stays put for a long time. The advantage of hot
glue you only have to hold the wire(s) in place for a minute while it sets
up; with silicon it may be hours. Do you have any info on the long term
properties of hot glue? It's a sticky subject.
