REFLECTOR: CS Spar install questions

Tony,

You previously drew lines to mark the position of the top and bottom of the spar on the firewall. This would be the height of the spar. If you measure from the top 3" down, and from the bottom 3" up, you should have the area they are suggesting.

My suggestion would be to butter up the entire area of the spar. I would "wet" both the firewall and spar - you'll have to pick the one that you should "butter" (ie. don't leave one side dry and expect to get a perfect bond from the structural adhesive - but it depends upon how wet you leave it - I generally have added cabo to make it easier to work with.

On the tapes, the manual says to put a micro radius across the top and bottom of the spar. If you run the radius into the gear leg (boxes) area, you will have a nice transition to run the bottom tape from edge to edge of the fuselodge.

My suggestion would be to use flox (and if desired a small amount of milled fiber), to create the radius. It will be lumpy. Go over the top of the radius with cabo (and if desired a small amount of milled fiber) to provide a smooth surface.

Just my thoughts about an area that a little extra beef won't hurt.

John

Installing the CS Spar in my SEFG and I have a couple of questions.

The manual (downloaded from the V web site) section 6.9.2 says to spread structural adhesive 3 inches in from lines drawn earlier - does this mean 3 inches in from the edge of the fuselage i.e. 3 inches in from each side or across the whole width of the cs spar and stopping 3 inches from the fuselage side?

Section 6.9.3 says to apply two plies of 3in by 41in BID along the top and bottom of the cs spar/ fuselage. The top looks OK but how do you do that along the bottom when the cs spar is on top of the gear pockets? All I could do would be under the cs spar in the gap between the gear pockets - about 23 inches. Am I misunderstanding something here?

	Thanks,

	Tony
	60% done 80% to go
