REFLECTOR:Homeowner's Policy

The problem, as I understand it from my insurance agent, is as follows. He
will include it as "hobby parts", until such time as I submit a claim. Then
the claims dept will probe into it, and will disallow the claim because,
under their description, these are "airplane parts", regardless of what the
govt says.

If, for example, kit parts (call them hobby parts) costing $40k were
destroyed (house fire, vandalism, etc), they would be covered under the
furnishings & extras category, which has a limit, usually a percentage of
the house value. You would have to be sure that you were fully covered for
all your furniture plus the $40k. In any case, you would have to identify
the damaged items, ie, furniture, TVs, etc, individually. As soon as the
claims dept sees "hobby parts " worth $40k, they begin to probe.

So, IMHO the real answer to this question will come when one of us actually
submits a claim, and lets the rest of us know how the insurance company
dispositioned the claim.
