Right... the only things covered under your car insurance are things that
are normally kept in a car, like the spare tire and jack and I suppose you
might make an argument for a first aid or survival kit as well.  Anything
else is considered stuff that would normally be kept in the house, like
golf clubs, bowling balls, kids birthday presents bein hidden, etc.  And
since they are normally kept in the house, they are covered under your
homeowners policy.  Screwey, but that is standard throughout the industry.

Also, if you want to be scared and disgusted, read your insurance policy. 
Not just the declaration sheet, but the entire policy.  You have one page
(the dec sheet) stating the limits of your coverage and cost, then the
rest of the book is all 'weasel clauses' giving you all the reasons and
excuses they will use trying to get out of paying any claim.  And in the
event that they do end up paying, your premiums go up so they can get it
back.
