Tony,
Yes, it is the one you put behind a radiator. I don't have a picture of =
the installation, but I just bolted it to the bottom of the inside lower =
cowl using the existing tabs on the fan. I believe it is a 9-inch =
diameter fan. I did install a screen sanwiched between the fan and the =
cowl. In the unlikely event that the fan ever came loose, the screen =
would keep it from going through the prop.

Jack,
Do you have a photo of showing where it was installed? Is the fan one =
of the electric ones you put behind a radiator?
Thanks
Tony
SEFG - still a long way from taxiing, let alone flying.

Mike,
I have an automobile after-market cooling fan installed in the =
bottom of my cowl (I have the top NACA scoops for cooling). I only use =
the fan on hot days while taxiing or waiting on the ground. It works =
extremely well in keeping the CHTs in the 320 - 350 degree range. I =
once had to hold on the ground for 25 minutes when the ambient =
temperature was 96 degrees and the CHTs never got above 380 degrees.
It seems, at first, that the fan wouldn't work because of the large =
opening at the cowl exit, but the prop must provide enough pull to keep =
the fan effective. The fan that I have doesn't weigh very much. You =
can get them at any auto store or through the JC Whitney catalog.

OK, from analyzing the answers so far, the cure for high temps on =
taxi and hold
is to:
1} Male sure the plenum is tight around the cylinders. DONE
2} Lean like hell while idling. ALWAYS DO.
3} use bilge fan to cool oil. HAVEN'T DONE THAT YET
4} Make sure cowl is as close to prop as possible. DONE
5} make slots on lower cowl for air to exit.
Scott Swing already tried # 5 with minimal results.
Maybe mounting a big fan (ala Volkswagen) with the top nacca scoop =
will resolve the heat problem?????
