REFLECTOR:To Gas Strut or Not

Was there a date when this update was applied to all NGs supplied by the
factory? If not can anyone describe or better yet post a photo to help
identify whether the NG fork has been updated or not? How can you tell if it
has been heat treated?

I'm metallurgically challenged too...
