It's amazing we still have the freedoms we do ... and steadily losing them.
I tried to explain to a friend the self-certification that takes place after
the 25-50 hour flyoff period.  The person was very surprised the inspector
was not along for the entire 25 hour ride.

  Some things to keep in mind, The chances of the FAA advising the ATC side
of these changes in a timely manner are almost Nil.

  Also, If you ask for an approach, that's what you get (traffic &
conditions permitting), it is not ATC's job to make sure you have the
correct equipment. After all, it is your butt.

  like usual, the only time you have to worry about these things is if you
get approached by the ramp nazzi's.
