REFLECTOR: Old Threade - Franklin oil pump spring

You should go grab a copy of Rick Lavoie's PDF on his conversation with PZL
regarding this subject. I asked him if I could put up a copy here for
download, but he said no.

Also, you should go through the downloads area on TVBF.org. Might be
something useful in there.

Failing that, the two springs are for two different pressures. The light
spring opens when a pressure differential exceeding 14 PSI across the
cooler/filter lines exists. The heavy spring opens when a pressure
differential exceeding 90PSI (as I recall) across the oil outlet to sump
exists.

So, worst case scenario, that 14PSI spring keeps your oil filter from
bursting at 90+14 PSI. Increase the bypass pressure, and your filter/cooler
sees higher absolute pressure.
Plug up your blowby tube, and the sump pressure reference goes up, which
will most likely pop a gland, but also increases the cooling loop absolute
pressure.
