REFLECTOR: Hydraulic Pump Leak..fluid levels

Just as a rough guess (not being at the aircraft this morning) but if the
main cyl is 1.5" diameter, and the rod is .375 diameter, then the difference
would be 25% in both volume and power calculations- with a (another guess)
stroke length of 18" this would be a difference of 4.4 oz of fluid- the
nose cylinder probably adds another oz or so.

You would think that, but remember that when the cylinders are extended,
the

fluid volume is the volume of the cylinder bore x stroke, when the
cylinders

are retracted, the fluid volume is the volume of the cylinder bore x
stroke

minus the volume of the rod(s) - so there is a significant volume

difference- this type of difference is also taken into account in the

calculations of cylinder power, since on the out stroke, you get full
power,

but on the return stroke, you do not, since you must subtract the rod end

area from the total piston area.

All true. The difference is about 6%.
