that was the new way of prepping the baffle tops - the stickum is beneath the flanges that you see there, then more stickum on the tops before closing them with the strake top- I did mine that way too to get more surface area for bonding with the strake lid.

The pictured lay up on the baffle is guaranteed to leak. The foam top edge
of  all the baffles must be dug out at least 1/2 to 3/4 ". Then make up a
stiff batch of whatever stickum you use and apply in the area just dug out
and allow the stickum to stick up past the baffle by about 1/2". When all
baffles are complete, apply the strake and use weights. The underside of the
strake will cause the stickum to mushroom on each side of the baffle and the
chance of a leak will be reduced.
