REFLECTOR:lights on the canard

I'm about to place the  layups on the canard foam.
To the guys that have placed landing/taxi lights on the
canard...
How did you channel the wire out to the lights?
I was thinking of using soda straws for conduit...
What gauge wire?
Did you place the lights in the tips? or close to the body?
Those halogen lights get hot... any heat shielding?
Other than looking cool... Is it of any real benefit?
