REFLECTOR:Brake selection.

I agree with Jack. I have 140 hours on my Matcos and no problems. And I am
based at a 3000' runway so some landings require pretty good application of
the brakes.

Well actually there is a shudder at about 20 knots, just before turning off
the runway, but I'm certain it has to do with harmonics of the RG gear
system and not the Matcos. (I have checked runout and thickness - no
problem found).

There are two upgrades that probably need to be made if you have older
Matcos - upgrade to the X option which includes larger cylinders and an
extra clamp bolt and replace the cast iron disks with steel disks. Hmmmmm,
Clevelands might be cheaper???

| Greg,
|
| I have about 400 hours on my STD Velocity Elite RG with the matcos. I've
| never had any trouble with them. I've never felt like I couldn't stop.
| I've been into strips as short as 2700 feet with no problems. I do have a
| stainless steel plate between the axle and the gear leg. Never had any
| heating problems even after repeated landings with moderate braking.
|
| Just my experience. I think the Matcos are adequate for the standard
| Velocity.
