The discussion is on WSI data antenna, not GPS antenna. It appears that =
you are confusing the two.

2 foot square if large. Please advise the details of what material =
you used and how you mounted it and how you connected it to the GPS =
antenna.

    Fred,
The AV100 installation manual suggests the use of a ground plane. =
We installed the factory unit without a ground plane - test operated the =
system with the aircraft parked - and everything appeared to be okay. =
When we flew the aircraft however, the receiver had a difficult (almost =
impossible) time staying locked onto the satellite. I spoke with our =
tech rep at WSI - who said that "truth be told ...the satellite =
broadcasting the WSI data is very low power ... which makes it important =
that we give the antenna every advantage possible to do it's job" ... =
meaning, it would be best if the antenna had a ground plane. At Wayne =
and Paul's suggestion I installed a 2 square foot ground plane "shelf" =
that is suspended under the canard hatch cover - and it made a big =
improvement. The WSI signal reception is (now) strong in flight.
    Scott B.

I talked with Scott Baker about this when I was there this past =
Monday and he advised me that the GPS antenna is being placed in the =
nose of the plane over the light and that it works fine. Also he does =
not make any mention of a ground plane.=20

        Hi Bob,
The guys have installed the WSI receiver in the new XL demo =
plane
and are having reception problems. You have had good luck with =
the
system and I am curious as to how & where you mounted the =
antenna.
My take is to mount it to a large ground plane above the =
machinery
atop the canard. This should give us about 2.5 square feet of =
plane
and hopefully fix the problem, the ground plane they have now is
about 4" x 12" on top of the canard and amongst the servo =
motors...
        What are you feelings/comments?

        Many Thanks & Fly Safe,
        Wayne Lanza

P.S. Do you know any of these guys?
