What would bug me even more is if it was bin Laden that was learning how to
jam, and prevent jambing of GPS instead of USG. We wish they could
practice in the desert but like everything else, real world is better.

Ronnie,

They do the same thing up here near the D.C. area quite often. It really
bugs me. The one in this area is centered on the Patuxent River Naval Air
Station.

I know this is off topic, but a bunch of V's are based in Florida. This
NOTAM says the GPS system is unreliable for an area of 115 mile radius at
4000 feet around a point that is about 50 miles off shore from Jacksonville,
FL. This would impact a large area of the southeast. This is going on from
today through September 23.

Anybody know what is going on? Is our Navy playing around with one of our
primary navigation systems??? and compromising the safety of aviation in
large area of the southeast? It would seem that if the Navy/US Gov needed
to test GPS reliability and performance, they could get a whole lot further
out than 50 miles off the coast????

09/053 - GPS UNRELIABLE WITHIN A 270 NM RADIUS OF 305000N/0802500W AT FL400.
THIS AREA DECREASES WITH ALTITUDE TO A CIRCLE OF RADIUS 225NM AT FL250 THEN
TO A CIRCLE OF RADIUS 160NM AT FL100 DOWN TO A CIRCLE OF RADIUS 115NM AT
4000 AGL. IFR OPERATIONS BASED UPON GPS NAVIGATION SHOULD NOT BE PLANNED IN
THE AFFECTED AREA DURING PERIODS INDICATED. THESE OPERATIONS INCLUDE
DOMESTIC RNAV OR LONG RANGE NAVIGATION REQUIRING GPS. THE OPERATIONS ALSO
INCLUDE GPS STANDALONE AND OVERLAY INSTRUMENT APPROACH OPERATIONS
1500-1900/2300-0300 DLY 19 SEP 15:00 UNTIL 23 SEP 03:00
