REFLECTOR:Static Trip Strip

My understanding is that the boundary layer affects the static port, and the
objective is to stir this layer up to get a more accurate static pressure.
If you will notice the static port on many certified airplanes, it is in a
raised circular plate about 1/16" thick.

I'm sure someone else can give a more scientific explanation about what is
exactly going on, but bottom line is you often have to install the "trip
strip" to improve the accuracy of the static port.
