Mack-
Try using Freon- just make sure that the (134A) that you use doesn't contain
an oil charge- if you blast it really well ( watch out for cold fingers)
and allow the liquid to run off the surface that you want cleaned, it will
probably remove all liquid hydrocarbon material. plus it has a really low
surface tension, so it will penetrate at least as far as the brake fluid
did. Keep it off your hands too, or you will have the worst case of dry skin
ever. We used to use this trick on tuff residues at Nippondenso .
There is another type of freon that is designed for vapor degreasing
equipment that will work with the same results, and it doesn't evaporate as
fast, but since the OZONE problem, it is scarce this side of the border -
last saw that stuff back in 94...

We have found removing residue from dot 5 brake fluid is very difficult.
When one tries to Repaint you always get orange peel.
