I think your crystal ball is pretty good here. But you don't need to talk them
into redesigning anything. The 24v version of your pitot burns a whopping
600w. If you operate the 24v pitot on 12v, it'll still draw 150w -- more than
enough to keep your pitot toasty. Consequently, I'd suggest you avoid the
hassle of convincing them to do something nonstandard and simply request it be
overhauled to operate on 24v.
