Do you need the weight for balance? The Sealed Lead-acid (SLA) =
batteries [also sometimes called Valve Regulated Acid (VRA) or =
Recombinant Gas (RG) batteries] are smaller and lighter for a given =
power capacity, and are very resistant to vibration, compared to "wet" =
batteries. They also have lower internal resistance, so thay can =
provide more cranking amps for their size than conventional lead-acid =
batteries. They are widely available in many brands and sizes, both =
from local stores and from national or regional suppliers. Basically =
ideal aircraft batteries. =20

See http://www.aeroelectric.com/articles/rg_bat.html for a description =
of the technology.

For a view of some of the available sizes and styles, see
http://www.batteryweb.com/powersonic12vsla.cfm

I'm planning to use a couple of SLA batteries in my XL, since it will =
have dual electrical busses.

I've been running a Sears Die Hard group 26 battery in my IO-360 =
std-rg for many years. However, it's time for a fresh battery and I'm =
looking for other options. =20

What are you guys using? How happy are you?

  Thanks!

  Dave
