REFLECTOR:FW: Fwd: [c-a] thrills and chills -

I haven't had good luck with the Flight Service Stations. It started while I was a student pilot when a briefer let me start my
long cross country going to an airport that was fogged in and ceilings weren't expected to lift until afternoon. He neglected to
mention this problem.

I always use DUATS at home and with my laptop when I'm on the road and I use the FBO's systems. I have had little luck getting
through to a briefer so I don't bother. Its a whole lot easier to plan by SEEing the weather maps and studying the TAF's and METARS
along the route. "VFR not recommended" is a standard CYA that ripples throughout the system.

If ATC and the FAA really wanted to help out, they would let the new technology get installed so that ATC can better see the weather
ahead of you. But again, ATC is focused on the big iron (I have to say I have seen some improvement since 9/11 and talk of
privatizing doesn't hurt either) and often don't have time to help when you're in trouble - unless you declare an emergency - then
you're really in deep s___ when you land.

Our system may be better than any in the world - but it SUX!

| Interesting tape, though I don't see how it weighs in favor of not
