Dave,
I just replaced my AC delco battery that was about three years old.
It was used for much of the testing of gear during the building
process and consequently sat idle a good deal of the time. I wanted
as much battery as I could find so ended up with a Sears "Optimum'
gell cell battery. a little pricey about $110.
the interesting result is that My VM 1000 which does a good job of
monitoring the voltage and whose threshold would cause a low volts
alarm at the wrong time has been quieted by having a battery that
does not permit the voltage to drop. With the new battery I have to
have a lot of equipment turned on and then if the gear motor is
energized I can sometimes get a low volts warning. The solution seems
to be keep the volts up and don't complain if the VM 1000 is just
telling you what you don't want to know.
Long story, but the battery seems a good choice. it was a little bit
longer (1") but about the same weight and the idea of gell cells ( no
spill) is a plus.
