Sorry for the late reply, I am way behind reading the reflector and didn't
realize how old the thread was.

The comment about "contempt for FAA rules" was NOT directed at you
personally or to anyone in particular, and I apologize if I offended anyone.
I follow AC-43-13 whenever I am faced with a problem like the one you
described.  I do this not because I have to, but to avoid making a mistake
that was discovered and corrected years ago and documented there.  Again, my
apologies.
