Just an interesting note here.  I work at a radar facility and I can 
assure you we can see composite aircraft fine when their transponders 
fail.  In fact, on the weekends there is a lot of hang-glider 
activity on a ridge-line north of the BUR airport and  
occassionally we actually get a good target on them (usually it's  
two of them close together and they have their wings up so the 
antenna gets a good look).
