REFLECTOR: Engine weight; speed



Anyone have data for all-up (wet) firewall back weight; excluding prop, for
Franklin 220?

Interesting bit of info buried in the article on the "pushy galore" on top
end speed limitation.  We talked about "hitting a wall" regarding prop
performance; they "hit the wall" and determined that it was a limit of the
pusher configuration.  Cirrus, with the VK30 had determined that it's an
effect of the wing wake on the prop performance.  You can minimize this
effect by getting the prop further away from the trailing edge of the wing;
they determined minimum distance of about 50% of the chord of the wing
minimized the effect. This is probably not feasible for us.
