I covered the sides of the cooler with duct tape, then did a two ply lay-up with fine bid from the side of the scoop, onto the cooler over the tape about 1/2". When cured, break the cooler out, trim the new lip, then seal with weatherstriping between the cooler and the new lip when you re-install. Hope hope I understood your question, and this will help.
